Apart from thinking about this however, it is important that you also consider the size of the doors and stairs in your new house. This is because they have to be large enough to ensure you can get your furniture through them. The stair size and your moving endeavour If you want to make sure you will handle furniture moving with much ease, you should take note of the following facts regarding stair measurements. 1. The minimum stair width required to move furniture is 42 inches. This has to be measured not only on the step, but also in between handrails, newels and base mouldings. 2. The difficulty of negotiating stair turns is dependent on the amount of headroom the landing offers. If there is unlimited headroom, it is easier to manoeuvre furniture in turns, even with narrow stairs. However the width of landings with limited headroom should be increased to make it easy to turn furniture. 3. When compared to a narrow hallway, low headroom, cramped turns and narrow steps prove to be more of an obstruction to moving of furniture. Open stairways always facilitate easy movement as items can be lifted over the banister. Facts on door size and moving Just like with stairs, there are also facts you should take note of when it comes to door sizes. 1. When you have to make a move, it is better to first measure the height and width of the elevator of your apartment building. Do the same thing with the entry door of your flat and the door of the room where you plan to keep the furniture in. 2. If required, you may have to remove the door from its hinges, and detach legs from your furniture, to get it into the room. If the stairs or doors are too small to move your furniture, you may have to move your furniture through the largest window. You should then measure the window dimensions as well.More news
