Becoming Part of the Community
Published on Saturday, 28 November 2009
For many people that have just newly moved into their homes or apartments, it is always a difficult issue on how they can blend into the community and transition from newcomers into formal residents - at least as far as the community is concerned. Some unfortunately fail to assimilate themselves into the new surroundings and become reclusive, sad, and lonely. One thing you can do to avoid this is by simply overcoming your shyness. If you live in an apartment building, you can greet people you pass by with a simple hi, hello or good morning, accompanied by a smile. Never be too shy to introduce yourself and find ways to make conversation with the people around you. Another thing you can do is to join groups with the same interests as yours. If you were a member of the photography club in your old place, try to find a new one where you now live so that you can make new friends. If you regularly go to the gym in your old neighborhood, you can apply to a new gym and meet new people. If you are up to it, you can also host a small getting to know you party so you can get to know everyone at one go. You can also go from door to door, offering a gift - usually food will suffice, preferably from your old home / community - as a way to introduce yourself to your neighbors. More news
